Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate Police arrested six criminals for looting cash and gold ornaments from a shop owner in Bhubaneswar.
The arrest was made following a detailed investigation into the complaint about loot of Purnachandra Nayak of Badagada Brit Colony in Bhubaneswar, who owns a shop at Unit–1 Market.
As per the complaint, Nayak was returning home at around 1.10 am on March 24 when he was attacked by a group of miscreants with a sharp weapon near the over-bridge on Kalpana-Rajmahal road. The attackers robbed him of gold ornaments (one bracelet and a gold chain) and Rs 70,000 cash before fleeing from the spot.
The investigating team utilised a combination of technical analysis and field work and human intelligence to resolve the case efficiently. By using multiple teams for specific tasks such as verifying CCTV footage, cross-checking criminal records, and deploying sources, conducting raids, Commissionerate police successfully nabbed the whole gang involved in this case.
The arrested persons have been identified as Deepak Ranjan Mallick (who snatched the gold items), Goutam Nayak, Pritam Padhi, Santosh Puhana, Sushil Samanta Singhar (procured the weapon of offence) and Abhijit Mohanty (assaulted the complainant with the said knife).
Police also seized six mobile phones, one Pulsar 180 bike bearing No OD-13-A-7310, One Red colour Unicorn without Regd number, one blue colour Hero Destini OD-02-CS-3544, one Bajaj Red colour Vespa OD-33-AD-7463, One sharp cutting knife, one Gold Chain weighing about 27.43 grams and one Gold Bracelet weighing about 15.00 grams from their possessions.
