Balasore: At least six girl students fell ill after taking deworm medicine at their school in Soro area of Odisha’s Balasore district on Monday.
The students were admitted to the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Soro after they fell ill following consumption of the medicine during school hours in the afternoon.
Shortly after taking the pills, the students complained of vomiting, nausea and of severe discomfort. They were immediately rushed to the CHC for treatment. Their condition was stated to be stable.
Notably, the students were administered the deworm drug as part of the deworming drive carried out by the Directorate of Family Welfare across the state.
Celebrating the National Deworming Day (NDD), the drive was carried out by the Directorate of Family Welfare, Odisha in collaboration with the National Health Mission and UNICEF.
As per official sources, over 1.46 crore children in the age group of 1 to 19 years were targeted to be covered under the campaign.
