Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Majhi on Friday enumerated himself digitally at his official residence in Bhubaneswar in presence of Odisha Census Operations director Nikhil Pawan Kalyan.

Majhi also issued an appeal to the people of the state to join the national exercise, highlighting its importance for future planning and development. “The census programme has commenced in Odisha through a collaborative effort between the Directorate of Census Operations under the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Revenue and Disaster Management Department of the state government. The first phase of the Census 2027 is currently underway. Self-enumeration is open until midnight on April 15 and it will be followed by door-to-door enumeration by trained officials from April 16 to May 15,” the CM informed.

Majhi encouraged citizens to use the official Self-Enumeration Portal at https://se.census.gov.in. “I request you, if you have not provided data till now, then provide your data on this portal and cooperate in the census. I have also done self-enumeration. You also do it,” he added.

This marks India’s first digital census, allowing residents to fill household details online via mobile number verification, location mapping, and a 33-question schedule to generate their self-enumeration ID. Enumerators will verify the Self-Enumeration ID during their door-to-door visit from April 16.

The Chief Minister emphasised the data’s critical role: “From April 16, trained enumerators will go house to house collecting data. This data is extremely important for planning and implementation in our state and country. Therefore, to provide this data, all of you extend a hand of cooperation and make the programme successful. Our government has completed all preparations for this programme.”

He added that citizens should provide accurate information when enumerators visit homes to support state and national development. “On behalf of the Odisha government, I request your sincere contribution for the success of this national programme,” Majhi concluded.

The exercise, coordinated by the Office of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner, will collect vital demographic, social, and economic data for policy formulation, resource allocation, and scientific research.

Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati led by example, becoming the first citizen in the state to complete self-enumeration on April 1. About 6,000 households, around 25,000 people, also joined the self-enumeration till 5pm on the first day.

The self-enumeration, however, is not mandatory.
