6 UK Returnees Test Positive For New Corona Strain

New Delhi: Six cases with the mutant strain of coronavirus, which was first reported in the United Kingdom, have been detected in India, the government said on Tuesday.

All the six patients recently returned from the UK.

According to a government statement, three of the patients are in NIMHANS, Bengaluru, two in CCMB, Hyderabad and one in NIV, Pune.

All the patients have been kept in single room isolation in designated healthcare facilities by the respective state governments, NDTV reported.

Their close contacts have also been put under quarantine. Comprehensive contact tracing has been initiated for co-travellers, family contacts and others, the government said.

Last week, India had suspended flights from UK till December 31 after the emergence of the new coronavirus strain in that country, which the UK government said has shown signs of being 70% more transmissible.
