Bhubaneswar: Around 60 devotees from Odisha were rescued safely after a boat carrying them collided with another boat near the Man Mandir Ghat in Varanasi.
After learning about the incident, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said that all the devotees were safe because of prompt action by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), local administration and Uttar Pradesh government.
In a post on X handle, Majhi thanked Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for the swift rescue operation conducted under his leadership to save the devotees.
Earlier, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had stated that all the passengers and devotees on board are safe. He spoke to officials in Uttar Pradesh.
“After receiving news of a collision between two boats near the Man Mandir Ghat in Varanasi, carrying about 60 devotees from Odisha, discussions were held with the Uttar Pradesh govt and local officials,” he said in a post on X handle
Thanking the government and local people, the Union Minister said due to the promptness and combined efforts of the NDRF, local police, and the Uttar Pradesh government, a major disaster was averted in the Ganga.
All passengers and devotees on the boat were safely rescued and the health condition of the people from Odisha was checked, he said
