60 Women Duped By Another Asha Worker & Her Daughter In Odisha’s Ganjam
Berhampur: In another incident of fraud by ASHA worker in Odisha, around 60 women of a village in Ganjam distri ct have been allegedly duped on the plea of providing healthcare services.
According to sources, the women of Rushipur village under Purushottampur police limits in the district had formed a group and made ASHA worker Kuni Patnaik and her daughter Pinki Patnaik as their leader in availing health services for the villagers.
Kuni and her daughter took necessary document and signatures of the women by stating that those were necessary for official processing to get services from government facilities. But the duo used the document to avail loans from different finance companies.
The women came to know about the matter after the officials from the finance companies went to their houses to enquire about delay in making payment of instalments to repay the loan. Though the women of the group realised that they had been duped by Kuni and her daughter, they found themselves in helpless situation as the mother and daughter had fled the village by the time.
However, they filed a complaint against Kuni and Pinki at Purushottampur police station.
In a similar case, more than 100 women of Banuaguda village under Sirasi panchayat of Papadahandi block in Nabarangpur district were duped of more than Rs 50 lakh by an Asha worker and her son earlier this month on the pretext of facilitating loans for them from banks.
