65+ Actors Cannot Work During COVID: Bombay HC Quashes Maha Govt Order
The Bombay High Court has quashed Maharashtra government’s orders barring senior citizens from outdoor shoots and studios. This means actors and entertainment crew above 65 years can now resume shooting.
Earlier, hearing a petition filed by actor Pramod Pandey on July 21, the Bombay High Court had asked Maharashtra government to explain the logic behind not allowing actors above the age of 65 to shoot for films, reported India Today. The HC had told the Maharashtra government that if the state does not prohibit a senior citizen from opening his shop and sitting there all day, then on what basis did it prevent artistes above 65 years of age from going out to work amid the current lockdown. And, also called it a case of discrimination, the report added.
Later, the Maharashtra government allowed resumption of film and television shoots but barred crew members below the age of 10 and 65 years from working.
