Nashik/New Delhi: IT major Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has suspended several employees at its Nashik unit after serious allegations of sexual harassment and forced religious conversion surfaced, triggering a widening investigation and political reactions.

The company confirmed the action, reiterating its “zero-tolerance policy towards harassment and coercion of any form” and said it is cooperating fully with law enforcement agencies probing the case, reported the TOI. The controversy has escalated rapidly, with multiple FIRs, arrests, and the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the allegations.

Explainer: What is the case about?

The case centres around complaints by multiple women employees who have alleged sexual, mental, and religious harassment over an extended period. Victims have accused colleagues of:

Sexual harassment and inappropriate conduct

Making obscene remarks and false promises of marriage

Coercion into religious practices

Some allegations include being pressured to offer namaz or consume beef, and attempts at religious conversion.

Police have also noted instances of harassment spanning several years, indicating a possible pattern rather than isolated incidents.

  1. FIRs and arrests

Around 9 FIRs have been registered in connection with the case.  At least six accused employees have been arrested, including team leaders and officials. A senior HR official has also been booked for allegedly failing to act on complaints, raising questions about internal redressal mechanisms.

Role of the company

TCS has stated:

The accused employees have been suspended pending inquiry

The company is cooperating with police

It maintains strict workplace safety standards

The firm acted after the allegations came to light and the matter escalated publicly.

SIT probe and investigation

Authorities have formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to examine:

Sexual harassment charges

Allegations of religious coercion

Possible systemic failure within the workplace

The probe is ongoing, and further developments are expected as statements are recorded and evidence examined.

Political and public reaction

The case has triggered strong reactions:

Maharashtra leaders have called the allegations serious and disturbing

The incident has sparked debate around:

Workplace safety in corporate India

Implementation of the PoSH (Prevention of Sexual Harassment) Act

Allegations of religious coercion in professional spaces

Timeline of events (so far)

2022 onwards: Alleged harassment begins, according to complaints

March–April 2026: FIRs registered; police action intensifies
