7 Fire Tenders Take 7 Hours To Douse Blaze At Saw Mill In Odisha’s Puri

Puri: A major fire broke out at a sawmill on Nabakalebar Road in Odisha’s Puri town late on Wednesday.

According to sources, the mishap occurred at the Jagannath Supply Syndicate. A team of fire personnel arrived at the spot and took control of the intense blaze after a nightlong operation.

“We received the information around 11.50 pm about the fire mishap. After arriving at the spot, we realised that it will be difficult to control the flames. Hence, we had to bring fire engines from seven stations including Puri fire station, temple fire station, Satyabadi fire station, and Brahmagiri fire station,” Assistant Fire Officer Pradeep Kumar Rout told the media.

He said that a pump was also fixed to draw water from nearby water bodies. “Our priority was to protect the nearby residential areas and lives,”

While a short circuit is suspected to have caused the fire, timber and items of furniture worth lakhs of rupees were gutted.
