Bhubaneswar: Principal Secretary Panchayati Raj D K Singh on Wednesday said that the Odisha government is expecting 5 lakh people to return to Odisha from other states once COVID-19 lockdown restrictions are lifted on May 3.

“No person will allowed to return to Odisha without registration on the government portal, which is being readied. The registration process will begin from Friday,” he said.

Singh further said that either the person can register on the portal himself or a family member can do it for him/her. “A relative can also fill up a form and submit it at the Gram Panchayat (GP) office. The officials posted there will do the registration for them,” he said.

According to available data, the government will make arrangements to take them from railway stations and bus stands to their respective GPs. “About 7000 temporary medical camps with 2 lakh beds have been set up at the GPs and they will be kept there,” he said.

The number of beds in Ganjam and Kendrapada districts, where more people are expected to return, will be increased.

After 14 days, they will be allowed to go home if found to be in pink of health.

A GP nodal officer will be in-charge of each of these medical camps. The website will have their numbers and people from Odisha residing outside can also contact them, he said.

Home quarantine is not allowed in rural areas, he added.
