Gurugram: Around 250 microbreweries, which make freshly brewed beer across the country, are looking at a loss of around 8 lakh litres, according to industry experts.
Unlike bottled beer, fresh-brewed beer has a short shelf life.
Apart from that, an inventory of around 1.2 million cases of Indian-Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) worth Rs 700 crore is stuck due to lockdown restrictions.
Brewers in Gururam are reportedly draining beer as electricity is needed to maintain a specific temperature and other conditions to keep the beer fresh, a report in The Indian Express said.
Craft Brewers Association of India has appealed that breweries be allowed to operate as take-away centres else all the beer in these plants will be wasted.
The microbreweries provide jobs to around 50,000 individuals, the report said.
Currently, liquor stores are allowed to reopen in some orange and green zones. Breweries, bars and pubs have not been allowed to operate.
