Mumbai: The Maharashtra Cabinet has given its approval for changing the names of 8 railway stations in Mumbai .
According to the decision taken at the Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Wednesday, these railway stations having the names of British era will be renamed. Following are the stations which are proposed to be renamed:
- Mumbai Central to be renamed after philanthropist Jagannath Shankar Seth
- Curry Road as Lalbagh
- Sandhurst Road as Dongri
- Marine Lines as Mumba Devi
- Charni Road as Girgaon
- Cotton Green as Kala Chowki
- Kings Circle as Tirthankara Parshvanath
- Dockyard Road as Mazgaon
The proposal will now be sent to the Centre for approval, Shiv Sena MP Rahul Shewale told media.
The state Cabinet has also taken several other significant decisions including purchase of 2.5 acre of land in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, renaming of Ahmednagar district as Ahilya Nagar and construction of a sea link between Uttan (Bhayander) and Virar (Palghar).
