Jeypore: Police seized nearly 85 modified silencers used in motorcycles during a three-day special drive in Odisha’s Koraput district. These devices were destroyed by Jeypore town police on Friday.
This crackdown on modified silencers, which are notorious for producing loud and disturbing sounds, is intended to curb public nuisance and ensure road safety.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of Jeypore sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Archita Mittal. “We detained 85 motorcycles fitted with modified silencers, which were removed and seized from the vehicles. The vehicles were returned to the owners, after the motorcycles were refitted with their original silencers,” Mittal told a local news channel.
Challans were issued to violators under the Motor Vehicle Act, with penalties for offenders ranging between Rs 1,000 and Rs 10,000, depending on the severity of the violation.
Regular vehicle checks will continue, alongside awareness drives in schools and colleges to educate young riders about the dangers of illegal modifications.
