According to reports, Dayalpur police station received a call about a suspected sexual assault around 8.41 pm on Saturday. The child had gone to give ice to a relative living nearby around 7 pm. She was later found unconscious inside a suitcase.
Upon arrival, police found that the girl’s father had already taken her to Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital in Shastri Park, where she was declared dead. “It is a case of sexual assault. Case has been filed under relevant sections of murder and rape at the Dayalpur police station. We sealed the place of occurrence, and the crime and FSL teams processed the area and collected exhibits, which will be used as proof during the investigation. On the basis of the statement of the family and eyewitnesses, we have some clues about the accused. Efforts are underway to nab him.,” DCP North East Delhi, Ashish Mishra, told ANI.
Prima facie, the attending doctors at the hospital observed visible injuries on her face and alleged sexual assault. A case has been registered under sections 103(1), 66, and 13(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), as well as the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Multiple teams have been deployed to collect clues and trace the accused. The investigation is being done on priority, the DCP added.
The girl’s father told the media that she stayed for five minutes at the relative’s place. “We looked everywhere when she did not return home even after an hour. Finally, someone told us she was seen entering a house nearby. That’s where we found her in a suitcase,” he said.
Police sources said the perpetrator seems to have fled after stuffing her in a suitcase.
