Action Plan For Migrant Labourers In Odisha Soon

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government will soon be formulating an action plan to address the plight of the migrant labourers.

Addressing the media after presiding over a meeting of the District Labour Welfare Officers here on Monday, Labour & Employees’ State Insurance Minister Susanta Singh said maximum people from Balangir, Kalahandi and Nuapada migrate to the neighbouring states in search of work.

These three districts, where migration is rampant, will henceforth be given priority while taking steps to bring down migration of the labourers from Odisha.

The Minister also informed that hostels are being constructed for the children of the migrant labourers to allow them to continue their studies while their parents are away.

“To provide immediate assistance to the migrant labouers of Odisha, the state government has set up help desk in Delhi, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Besides, plans are afoot to open a special help desk in Delhi for labourers working abroad. The special help desk will stay in touch with the External Affairs Ministry to know the details about labourers of out state. We have apprised the Chief Minister of these proposals and he will soon take a call on them,” Singh added.
