Odisha Congress To Support Central Trade Unions’ Bharat Bandh Call On Jan 8

Bhubaneswar: The central trade unions on Monday gave the Bharat Bandh call on January 8 in protest against the steep hike in the price of essential commodities, unemployment and the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

The 10 central trade unions INTUC, AITUC, HMS, CITU, AIUTUC, TUCC, SEWA, AICCTU, LPF, UTUC, independent federations and associations of various sectors including some independent unions will participate in the one-day strike across the country.

Briefing mediapersons after his meeting with the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Niranjan Patnaik at the Congress Bhawan here, AITUC national secretary Ramakrushna Panda said the OPCC president assured full support to the Bharat Bandh call.

He, however, said examinations in educational institutions and transportation of milk will be exempted from the 24-hour bandh. Besides, all medicine shops will remain open, he added.
