Baboons Go Berserk In Odisha’s Kendrapara, 12 People Injured
Kendrapara: A troop of baboons went berserk at a village in Kendrapara district on Tuesday, injuring 12 people, including two boys, in the process.
The baboons also wreaked havoc on some farms at Badamangarajpur village in the Derabish police station area.
Locals alleged that they had repeatedly complained about the monkey menace in the area to the Forest Department, but to no avail.
A villager said, “People here are scared to go outdoors as the monkeys go on an attacking spree. We are helpless. Neither the administration nor the Forest Department has paid any heed to our grievances.”
On their part, Forest Department officials said they will soon drive away the baboons.
Recently, the Forest Department had installed noise repellents to curb monkey menace in Deogarh town. The machines, which run on electricity, create powerful high-frequency ultrasonic waves that create pain and discomfort among monkeys and ensure they stay away from the area.
