Compassionate Cop: Video Of SI Barsha Mohanty Feeding Mentally Challenged Woman Making Hearts Melt
Cuttack: Who says that all those who wear khaki are heartless? Well, not all, especially if the cop in question is a woman. Barsha Mohanty, a sub-inspector at the Cuttack Mahila police station is a case in point.
A viral video of her feeding a mentally challenged old woman at Dargah Bazaar Chowk in Cuttack recently drew a lot of appreciation.
The police were distributing food packets at Dargah Bazaar Thursday night when an old woman sitting in a corner suddenly came onto the road. A policeman tried to persuade her to go to the side and gave her a food packet. But she neither accepted the packet nor did she budge from the middle of the road.
Realising that she is mentally challenged, the cops did not go near her but not Barsha, who was watching all this from a distance.
“I could make out from her look that she was hungry. She didn’t answer any of my questions. Then I unwrapped the food packet and started feeding her while patting her back. She was speaking Hindi. She took more than the usual time. It seemed that despite her being hungry she was reluctant to accept food from us,” she said.
“Later, I gave her a packet of biscuits and a water bottle. By that time the distribution had finished and I returned home,” she added.
Barsha says the incident left her sleepless at night.
Prior to her posting at Mahila police station, Barsha had served at Markat Nagar and Badambadi police stations. Her husband Gyanaranjan Mohapatra is an ASI at Dhauli police station.
