New Delhi: Following the criticism of CBSE for dropping several important topics like citizenship, federalism, secularism, etc in the reduced syllabus for Classes IX to XII, the board on Wednesday clarified that those topics are either covered by the rationalised syllabus or in the Alternative Academic Calendar of NCERT.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) stated that the rationalisation of syllabus upto 30 per cent has been undertaken for nearly 190 subjects of Class IX to XII for 2020-21 academic session only as a one-time measure keeping the COVID-19 situation in mind, according to an IANS report.

While it has said that no questions will be asked from the reduced syllabus in next board examinations, the CBSE has directed the schools to follow alternative calendars prepared by the NCERT.

“Therefore, each of the topics that have been wrongly mentioned in media as deleted have been covered under Alternative Academic Calendar of NCERT which is already in force for all the affiliated schools of the Board,” it clarified.

Earlier in the day, there were criticism from different prominent people including West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee about dropped subjects in the new syllabus.
