Bhubaneswar: With no rainfall in Odisha for the past 72 hours, the water levels of all major rivers have been falling gradually.
In a related development, the Hirakud dam authorities have opened two gates due to less inflow of Mahanadi water from the upper catchments.
By 9 am on Monday, the water level of the dam was 625.93 feet as against the optimum level of 630 feet. The inflow and outflow of water were 1,25,829 and 49,591 cusecs per second, respectively.
The discharge of water was 92,000 cusecs per second at Khairmal, 1,22,625 cusecs per second at Barmul and 1,75,397 cusecs per second at Mundali, officials said.
Apart from Mahanadi, the water levels of Devi, Kushabhadra, Ib, Brahmani, Baitarani, Budhabalanga, Subarnarekha, Vanshadhara, Rushikulya and Jalaka were below the danger mark.
