A Few Past Confessions From Bollywood On Drug Addiction
Mumbai: Days after Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut tweeted about 99 per cent of the film industry being on cocaine, a video of hers saying that she used to be a drug addict has gone viral on social media.
The actress had posted the video on her Instagram account in March while she was spending time at her house in Manali.
“Jaise hi main ghar se bhaagi, dedh-do saal me main ek film star thi, ek drug addict thi. Meri zindagi me itne saare kaand chal rahe the ki main aise logo ke haathon mein lag chuki thi, jahaan itna sab danger ho chuka tha meri life me (soon after I ran away from my house, in around one and a half to two years I became a film star and a drug addict. So much stuff was happening in my life, I fell into the hands of such people, where all these dangerous things happened in my life),” Kangana is heard saying in the video.

Sanjay Dutt is among the few actors, who have admitted to having been addicted to drugs. The movie Sanju (2018) revolved around substance abuse and his days of addiction.
Ranbir Kapoor, who played Sanjay Dutt in the movie, had confessed to having done drugs too. “I have tried drugs when I was in college and got into bad influence. But I realised that nothing will happen in life if I continue with drugs. Sanju is a lesson for youngsters that five minutes of ecstasy can destroy your entire life,” he was quoted as saying by India Today.
Prateik Babbar has also been vocal about his drug addiction. In an interview with a leading daily, the actor revealed that he got involved with drugs when he was only 13. “My first real drug was a disturbed childhood. Constantly faced with an internal dilemma, the voices in my head debating where I belong and who I am, drugs came disguised as a glitzy escape,” he said.
In 2001, Fardeen Khan was arrested for possession of drugs. The case was eventually closed in the year 2012 after he went through a de-addiction process.
