Bhubaneswar: A candidate for the post of student union president at BJB Autonomous College sustained injuries during a clash between two groups in Pipili here on Sunday.
The student, identified as Aryan, was taken to Pipili Hospital for treatment. He was later shifted to Capital Hospital for further medical care.
The incident reportedly occurred at a gathering organised by Aryan and his supporters following an election campaign in Pipili. A feast was organised at a nearby ground, where more than 15 students were present.
According to eye witnesses, the situation turned tense when another BJB College student arrived at the spot along with 5-6 others. They allegedly objected to the preparation of non-vegetarian food near the premises of the nearby Nilakantheswar Temple.
An argument between the two groups ensued, which subsequently escalated into a physical altercation. Aryan sustained injuries to his head during the clash.
He was immediately rushed to Pipili Hospital, where doctors attended to him. However, considering his head injury, Aryan was referred to Capital Hospital for further treatment.
Pipili police have registered a case and an investigation is underway to establish the circumstances that led to the violence. Two teams have been formed to identify and arrest those involved in the clash.
