PIL In HC Seeks CBI Probe Into Minor Gang Rape In Odisha Capital
Cuttack: The Bharatiya Vikash Parishad has filed a public interest litigation (PIL) in the Orissa High Court seeking a CBI probe into the alleged gang rape of a minor girl in Bhubaneswar.
The PIL, filed by lawyer Gopal Prasad Jena on behalf of the president of the Parishad Surendra Panigrahi, has stated that though a complaint has been lodged 18 days back, the Commissionerate Police is yet to arrest the accused till date due to the complicity of some policemen and mediapersons.
Stating that the people of Odisha have lost faith in the police due to the latter’s failure in similar cases in Kunduli, Pipili, Puri, Rayagada, and Jagasinghpur, the PIL has prayed the court to order a CBI probe into the incident and payment of Rs 30 lakh as compensation to the victim.
The PIL has made the Union Home Secretary and the state chief secretary, Home secretary, Director General of Police (DGP), twin city police commissioner, deputy commissioner and the state secretary of the Odisha State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (OSCPCR) as respondents.
