Bhubaneswar: In a unique initiative to spread awareness against coronavirus, artists have taken to wall paintings on the city outskirts.
The themes of the paintings on the walls of houses centre on sanitization, cleanliness, different festivals and quotations. They also focus on the importance of wearing masks, washing hands and maintaining cleanliness in homes and the environment.
These paintings can be seen at Adimata Colony in Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) ward number 12 and Rangamatia village in ward number 9. Besides, the walls of a park and temple at Rangamatia have also been adorned with these attractive paintings.
According to BMC sources, members of some self-help groups (SHGs) were given the responsibility for the paintings to make them self-dependent during the lockdown.
Till now, wall paintings on 2,000 sq ft have been completed. In the coming days, similar wall paintings will be created at Gajapati Nagar, Press Colony and some other villages on the city outskirts.
“This is a good initiative to create awareness among people. The paintings are really attractive. During this COVID-19 pandemic, these messages are useful. It should be done at all the villages on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar,” said the resident of Adimata Colony.
