Oppn Cries Police Inaction In Pari Murder Case; Odisha Govt Suspends Nayagarh Sadar IIC, Transfers SDPO

Cuttack: Drawing flak from the Opposition over ‘inaction’ in the minor girl Pari murder case, the Odisha government on Thursday suspended the IIC of Nayagarh Sadar police station Ritarani Sahu and transferred sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Niranjan Padhi as DSP, Kandhamal.

The government decision came hours after BJP general secretary in-charge of Odisha D Purandeswari visited Pari’s village Jadupur and inquired about the murder that has shaken the conscience of the state.

Coming down heavily on the gross inaction by the police in arresting the prime accused even after five months of the child’s death, Purandeswari said the local BJD MLA and minister Arun Sahoo, who is allegedly shielding the accused, should resign from his post immediately.

The body of Pari was found at Jadupur village under Nayagarh Sadar police station on July 14 . But police are yet to achieve any major breakthrough in the case, giving the Opposition the opportunity to target the government.

It may be noted that there were allegations against the two police officers on their modus operandi in the case. The mother of the deceased minor girl had alleged that the Sadar IIC had misbehaved with her after the death of her daughter.
