Migratory Bird Count In Odisha’s Hirakud Reservoir To Begin On Jan 7
Sambalpur: The annual migratory bird census will at Hirakud reservoir in Sambalpur district will commence from January 7.
As many as 21 teams will be engaged in the bird counting exercise at Hirakud reservoir and in the power channel, the DFO of Hirakud Wildlife Division informed.
Each of the teams surveying the 21 sectors will comprise three forest officials, the DFO said, adding that all the members will take training in this regard.
Like every year, migratory birds have started flocking since October last week this year. Most of the birds have come from Siberia.
Notably, forest officials had spotted 1,45,946 birds of 92 species in Hirakud (WL) Division and forest divisions of Sambalpur and Jharsuguda in 2019.
