Washington Sundar: A Warrior On Field, Pampered Son At Home

India all-rounder Washington Sundar has revealed that he has been getting pampered a lot by his mother and gorging on his favourite dishes since returning home from a successful tour of Australia.

“I had chicken biryani two days ago and my mother is pampering me a lot. But in a couple of days, I am so much looking to join the team again and get ready for the England series,” Sundar told in an interview to Sports Today.

Sundar made a super Test debut by scoring 84 runs and bagging 4 wickets, as India beat Australia by 3 wickets in Brisbane to clinch the Test series 2-1.

The youngster also contributed with 22 crucial runs in the highest successful run chase at the Gabba and was part of a 53-run partnership with Pant for the 6th-wicket.

“Rishabh and I have played a lot of cricket since our under-19 days and that helped a lot. He was batting superbly and that helped us take control. When I went in we still needed 50. I knew if we got 25-30 runs they will feel the pressure and we could win. That’s exactly what we did.

“When Rishabh hit the winning four it was just the best feeling of my life: and when I was walking with the Indian flag at the Gabba it is a feeling I can’t express in words,” the 21-year-old said.

Sundar also gave credit to stand-in skipper Ajinkya Rahane, vice-captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Ravi Shastri for encouraging the youngsters to express themselves during the series.

“Ravi bhai has always given us confidence and the way Ajinkya captained was superb. Rohit has always helped us all the youngsters and the dressing room was fantastic, all of us were allowed to express ourselves,” he said.
