Vaccinated People May Still Transmit COVID-19: NHS
London: England’s leading medical officers on Sunday asked people to strictly follow lockdown rules as vaccine-induced immunity takes at least three weeks to kick in.
England’s Deputy Chief Medical Officer Professor Jonathan Van-Tam warned that there’s no evidence yet that vaccinated people cannot transmit the COVID-19 virus.
“Regardless of whether someone has had their vaccination or not, it is vital that everyone follows the national restrictions and public health advice, as protection takes up to three weeks to kick in and we don’t yet know the impact of vaccines on transmission,” said Van-Tam.
The daily death toll has reached 1,348 this weekend, taking UK’s total to 97,329.
The total number of people vaccinated has crossed 5.8 million and the NHS is doing so at 140 jabs a minute, he informed.
“The vaccine is rightly something to celebrate – let’s stay patient, stay at home and support the NHS as it continues to roll out the vaccine,” he added.
