Untouched By COVID-19, These Odisha Villages Set An Example
Gajapati/Koraput/Nabarangpur: Two years into the pandemic and some Odisha villages have not reported a single COVID-19 positive case so far.
Four villages of Tarangada panchayat under Gumma block in Gajapati district have population of more than 500. In the first wave and second wave of Corona pandemic, the virus couldn’t touch these villages.
People of these villages include Tala Tamusingh, Upara Tamusingh, Tala Panguda and Upara Panguda have been going out and people of outside villages are also coming to the villages. Still, they have not been affected with the virus for their self discipline. The villagers have been following the safety protocols religiously.
Likewise, Hanumala village under Lamataput block in Koraput district has not yet been affected with the virus. The tribal dominated village has more than 160 households. They are mostly dependent on farming for their livelihood.
Though the people of this village are not highly educated, they are following corona guidelines strictly. They have understood that use of mask can save them from infection. Natives of the village, including children and elderly, people have been using face mask.
Similarly, 1,500 residents of Balenga village under Koshagumuda block in Nabarangpur district have remained untouched by coronavirus so far.
Most of the villagers used to go to Andhra Pradesh in search of work. Asha and Anganwadi healthcare workers in this village organised meetings frequently to create awareness and it worked.
The residents sealed the entry point to the village and no one is allowed in. Following the guidelines, they have been trying to save their village from coronavirus.
