Uttar Pradesh: Truck Rams Into Stationary Bus, Kills 18
Barabanki (Uttar Pradesh): A truck rammed into a double-decker bus on the Lucknow-Ayodhya National Highway under the Ram Sanehighat police circle killing as many as 18 people.
Another 15 persons suffered serious injuries and were referred to the Lucknow-based Trauma Centre.
Reports suggest that the accident happened in the early hours of Wednesday when the bus was travelling from Haryana to Bihar.
Following an axle breakdown, the double-decker bus on the Kalyani River bridge was halted on the Ayodhya border.
Due to poor visibility, a truck hailing from Lucknow at a high speed hit the bus. The collision was so strong that most of them died on the spot, reported news agency IANS.
Most passengers had got down from the bus and were sleeping on the roadside when the accident happened. ADG Zone, Lucknow, SN Sabat confirmed the toll.
The deceased Suresh Yadav, Indal Mahto, Sikandar Mukhiya, Monu Sahni, Jagdish Sahni, Jai Bahadur Sahni, Baijnath Ram and Balram have been identified so far.
“We were around 130 people who left from a bus stop near Haryana’s Ambala for Bihar… around 8 pm, the bus broke down and the driver informed us that the repair work will take time. Many of us came out of the bus… Few were sleeping on the road, a few were eating or resting,” survivor Bharat was quoted as saying by NDTV.
