COVID 3rd Wave To Begin This Month! Know What IIT Study Says

New Delhi: COVID-19 cases in India are likely to rise again with the possible outbreak of the third wave of the pandemic in August, according to a team of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) researchers.

Following the outbreak of the third wave, COVID cases may peak by October. In the best-case scenario, India may see less than 100,000 cases per day. On the other hand, there may be nearly 150,000 cases in the worst scenario, said the joint team of researchers from IIT Hyderabad and Kanpur.

One of the lead researchers, Prof Mathukumalli Vidyasagar said their predictions were based on a mathematical model.

Earlier this year, Vidyasagar and his team had accurately forecast the lessening of the COVID surge. Therefore, their latest predictions have raised concern among experts.

On the brighter side, the IIT study said the third COVID wave is likely to be less brutal than the send surge, whose peak saw 400,000 plus cases daily.
