Ex-CBI Director Uma Shankar Mishra Passes Away

New Delhi: Former CBI Director Uma Shankar Mishra passed away at a private hospital in New Delhi on Thursday.

Sources said that he was ailing for the past few days.

The 1968-batch officer was the only IPS officer from Odisha to hold the top post in the central investigating agency. He had also served as Special Director to CBI before taking charge as the Director in December 2003.

Mishra was the main strategist in the extradition of underworld don Abu Salem and his girlfriend Monica Bedi, allegedly involved in 1993 serial bomb blast cases in Mumbai that killed more than 250 people, in November 2005 from Portugal. He retired a month later.
He later joined Odia daily Surya Prava as Editor in 2009. Besides, he was a member of Meghalaya’s Planning Commission and an adviser to Microsoft India.
