Bhubaneswar: An on-duty doctor reportedly sustained snakebite during Cyclone ‘Dana’ in a primary health centre (PHC) in Odisha’s Kendrapada district.
According to sources, Dr Babul Mohanty was deputed to the PHC in Mahakalpara of the district to provide health services to the people during the cyclone. Since the PHC did not have a toilet for the medical staff, Dr Mohanty had gone outside to relieve himself in the wee hours of October 25 when the cyclone made the landfall.
At the time, a venomous snake bit him. Dr Mohanty was administered anti-snake venom injection and rushed to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. He was undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU) of Medicine Department of the hospital.
However, Additional District Medical Officer (ADMO) of Kendrapada Sachidanand Mishra said Dr Mohanty was bitten by a snake while he sleeping inside the PHC. He was recovering from the snakebite and would be fine soon, Mishra added.
