Tata Sons’ Air India Bid Winning Reports Incorrect: Finance Ministry

New Delhi: Responding to reports on Tata Sons emerging winner in the Air India bid, the Finance Ministry on Friday said that no decision has yet been taken on the sale of the debt-laden state-run airline.

Bloomberg had earlier reported that a panel of ministers has accepted a proposal recommending the bid of the salt-to-software conglomerate for the national carrier, ahead of an offer from Ajay Singh, promoter of India’s airline operator Spicejet Ltd.

“Media reports indicating approval of financial bids by Government of India in the AI disinvestment case are incorrect,” the ministry said in a tweet. “Media will be informed of the Government decision as and when it is taken.”

According to a PTI report, Tata Sons has emerged as the top bidder for the takeover of the national carrier but the bid is yet to be approved by a group of ministers headed by Home Minister Amit Shah.

Air India and Tata Sons declined to comment.
