Team India Gets New Jersey For T20 World Cup; What’s Special About It?

Mumbai: Team India will take the field in the upcoming T20 World Cup in a brand new jersey.

Unveiling the kit on Wednesday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) called it the ‘Billion Cheers’ jersey. It will replace the jersey Virat Kohli & Co. had been donning in T20Is and ODIs since late 2020 – a 1992 World Cup-like jersey.

“Presenting the Billion Cheers Jersey! The patterns on the jersey are inspired by the billion cheers of the fans,” BCCI tweeted along with an image of KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah sporting the new kit.

“This isn’t just a Team, they are the pride of India. This isn’t just a jersey, it is the blessing of a billion fans. Get ready to cheer for Team India,” tweeted MPL Sports, the official kit sponsors of Indian cricket team.

The tournament will be played at three venues in the UAE – Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi – from October 17 to November 14.

India will open their campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan at Dubai on October 24.

Their other league-stage opponents are New Zealand, Afghanistan and two qualifiers (Group B toppers and Group A runners-up).
