Commissionerate Police Bust Inter-State Vehicle Lifting Racket; Nab One From Odisha Capital

Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate Police on Sunday bust an inter-state vehicle lifting racket and arrested one person in connection with the case. Police also recovered two cars stolen from Madhya Pradesh.

Acting on a tip-off from Madhya Pradesh police that one person stole 196 vehicles from their state and sold some in Odisha, the Commisionerate Police was on the lookout for such vehicles.

On Sunday, Saheed Nagar police spotted a suspiciously parked white Maruti Swift car near Saheed Nagar-Bomikhal flyover. The driver identified himself as Abdul Shakoor Jan Kabir of Kanker in Chhattisgarh. In Bhubaneswar, he is staying at Gothapatana behind SUM Hospital.

During verification with that of engine and chasis numbers of the vehicle, the vehicle was found to be a stolen one. The engine number belongs to vehicle of Vidisha in Madhya Pradesh, said Sanjeev Satpathy, ACP, Bhubaneswar Zone 5.

During interrogation, Shakoor said he received the stolen car from Madhya Pradesh through persons, who are engaged in lifting four wheelers from Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh areas. Shakoor himself sold some stolen cars to different customers in Odisha, said police.

He confessed to have kept another stolen car (Honda Amaze) in his rented apartment under Chandaka police limits for sale. Acting on the information, police recovered the Honda Amaze too.

Police are probing different angles of theft and Shakoor’s role in it.
