BMC To Construct Seven New Drains To Tackle Waterlogging
Bhubaneswar: Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Tuesday decided to construct seven new drains in different parts of the city to tackle waterlogging during the monsoon.
The decision in this regard was taken in the wake of severe waterlogging reported from different localities following heavy rainfall in the past two days.
“The BMC has allocated Rs 9.45 crore for the construction of drains at places from where complaints regarding waterlogging are being reported frequently”, said BMC deputy commissioner Srimata Mishra.
Besides, nodal officers have been asked to take stock of waterlogging and other related issues by visiting their respective wards under the BMC, every morning. Instructions have been issued to the engineering department to make provisions for installation of water pumps to release rainwater from the waterlogged areas, Mishra added.
On Monday, several localities including the road in front of ISKCON Temple at Nayapalli area on National Highway-16, Acharya Vihar, Jaydev Vihar, Bomikhal, Old Town, Dumduma and Sisupalgarh in the state capital were inundated due to incessant rainfall.
