Surge In COVID Cases: Odisha CM To Hold Review Meeting Today

Bhubaneswar: With the state witnessing a surge in COVID positive cases on Tuesday, chief minister Naveen Patnaik will hold a high-level meeting to take stock of the situation in the evening.

According to sources, the chief minister will chair the meeting with senior officials of departments concerned with COVID management like Health and Police at 5 pm.

The Centre’s advice on strengthening the health infrastructure like opening temporary treatment centres, enforcing the COVID guidelines and monitoring the arrival of foreign returnees are likely to figure in the meeting, the sources said.

Earlier in the day, director Health Services had said the government may announce new guidelines, if the COVID infection spreads in the state.

The daily COVID caseload went up to 680 cases on Tuesday compared to 424 on Monday with Khurda district accounting for 263 new patients. Sundargarh and Sambalpur also reported a surge with 69 and 42 cases respectively.
