Bhubaneswar: The vaccination of children in the age group of 12-14 years against COVID-19 began at IRC village hospital and high school in the Odisha capital on Wednesday, coinciding with the National Vaccination Day.
According to the health department, 15.21 lakh children in the state will be jabbed with Corbevax vaccine manufactured by Biological E. Limited, Hyderabad. They will be administered the vaccine with on-site registration as the required features are yet to be updated on the CoWIN portal.
The children will have to produce either the birth certificate or the Aadhaar card during the registration at the vaccination centre. At schools, student ID cards or the approval of teachers will also be accepted.
The Chief District Medical Officers (CDMOs) have been directed to run the drive during the school hours in the first phase. Dedicated centres will be gradually set up for the vaccination of the children in the next phases. The Education Department will coordinate with the SC-ST Department to streamline the drive. Over 600 health workers have been engaged for the purpose.
The gap between the 2 doses will be 28 days.
