Deoria: The police rescued as many as 24 girls from a shelter home in Deoria district of Uttar Pradesh on Monday amid allegations of sexual and physical abuse.
The matter came to light when a 10-year-old girl escaped from the shelter and told the cops that “red, white, black cars picked girls at night and dropped them in the morning.”
The raid at the shelter home came after its license was cancelled for failing an inspection conducted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
The police arrested the director of the institution, Girija Tripathi and her husband.
A probe has been ordered into the matter and the statements of the rescued girls will reveal further the extent of exploitation they had suffered.
“The organisation’s director, Girija Tripathy misbehaved with our team members when they visited the place following the CBI’s order to close it. We got to know the reality of the place after a girl escaped from there. There have been many big disclosures during the investigation. As many as 24 children have been rescued safely so far,” said ANI, quoting Superintendent of Police Rohan P Kanay.
