Banika: Normal life came to a standstill in Binika of Sonepur district on Saturday owing to a 12-hour bandh called by BJP demanding filling up of doctors’ posts in community health centres of the area.
Most shops, business establishments, educational institutions and offices remained shut while vehicles remained off the roads in the locality in response to the strike.
The saffron party activists were seen staging blockades at different locations by burning tyres and holding demonstrations to press for their demands.
The local journalists’ association also extended its support to the strike.
“Absence of adequate doctors in different community health centres has become a major problem here as people are deprived of quality healthcare facilities in the area. Despite repeated requests, the district administration has failed to appoint adequate doctors to meet the healthcare needs of the locals,” an agitator said.
