Good News For Railway Travellers, Days After Excess Luggage Charge Policy
New Delhi: Days after being rocked by the announcement that Indian Railways will charge extra money for excess baggage, there is some good news for frequent train travellers.
Indian Railways announced on Monday that the limit on booking online tickets through the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) website and app has been increased.
The maximum number of tickets which can be booked by a user ID which is not Aadhaar-linked has been increased from 6 to 12 per month.
Railways has raised the limit of booking maximum 6 tickets in a month to 12 tickets by a user ID which is not Aadhaar-linked.
For Aadhaar-linked user IDs, the limit has been raised from 12 tickets in a month to 24. From those whose tickets are booked, any one of the travellers will be verified through Aadhaar, the union Ministry of Railways said in a notification.
The Ministry of Railways recently advised people not to travel with excess baggage in trains.
“When you travel with extra luggage, enjoyment of the journey is half! Do not travel by train carrying more luggage. In case of excess baggage, go to the parcel office and book the luggage,” the ministry said in a tweet in Hindi.
In its new policy, the Railways announced that just like air travel, railway passengers will also have to pay for carrying excess luggage. The luggage limit and charges vary for every class.
