Karan Johar’s ‘Jugjugg Jeeyo’ To Be Screened In Court First; Know Why

Mumbai: Karan Johar has been in the news of late for different reasons.

His 50th birthday party, where the who’s who of tinsel town were present, made headlines as it was reported to be a COVID-19 superspreader.

Two days ago, Karan announced the launch date of his popular chat show Koffee with Karan, Season 7.

Now, his film JugJugg Jeeyo has run into a legal hurdle.

Ranchi-based writer Vishal A Singh has sued the producers of the film – Karan’s Dharma Productions and Viacom18 Studios — for copyright violation.

A local court, where the case is being heard, has ordered its screening ahead of its release on June 24.

Vishal claimed last month that the film’s makers copied his script ‘Bunny Rani’ for JugJugg Jeeyo. He uploaded screenshots on Twitter, saying that he had mailed excerpts of his script to the production studio but then the film was made without his knowledge.

Vishal has sought a compensation of Rs 1.5 crore.

Justice MC Jha will hear arguments from both sides and watch the movie to assess whether it infringes the Copyright Act.

The Raj Mehta-directed film stars Varun Dhawan, Kiara Advani, Neetu Kapoor and Anil Kapoor.
