Students Protest Ban On Smartphones At Women’s College In Odisha’s Berhampur

Berhampur: Upset over the ban imposed on the use of smartphones on campus, students of Mahamayee Mahila Mahavidyalaya in Berhampur city of Ganjam district on Monday went to the principal with a letter protesting the ban. But principal Dr S Narayan Rao refused to accept the letter or lift the ban.

Hundreds of students had gone to meet the principal along with the letter this morning, questioning the ban in a digital age.

However, Rao did not accept the letter and asked the students to have a meeting with their parents.

It is pertinent to mention that the restrictions have been imposed from July 30 after a notice was issued by the office of the principal of the college. “Many girl students were found bringing smartphones to the college and watching videos during college hours. Smartphones have been banned but students are allowed to carry mobile phones with key pads to the college,” said Rao.
