Low Pressure To Trigger Heavy Rainfall In 11 Odisha Districts

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forcast heavy rainfall in 11 districts in the south and coastal Odisha in the next 24 hours.
In an afternoon release on Saturday, the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, said a cyclonic circulation which had formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal off west Bay of Bengal­ off the Odisha coasts on Friday has concentrated into a low-pressure area.

Under its influence, heavy rain is likely to lash Malkangiri, Koraput, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri, Khurda, Cuttack and Jagatsinghpur districts in the next 24 hours.

Besides, several areas in the North Odisha districts would also receive moderate to heavy rainfall.

“The rainfall will increase in these 11 districts while the spell would be widespread in almost all parts of Odisha in the next 48 hours till August 20. The weather condition will improve from August 21,” Director, Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, HR Biswas said.

In view of the inclement weather conditions, fishermen are advised not to venture into deep sea in the north-west and the west-central Bay of Bengal as the sea condition would be very rough during the period, he added.
