New Delhi: Subramanian Swamy has been directed to vacate his government accommodation within six weeks.
The Delhi High Court ruled that while the former BJP Rajya Sabha MP will continue to receive Z+ security, the bungalow allotted to him in 2016 must be turned over to the estate officer soon.
Swamy had been allotted government accommodation by the Cabinet Committee in January 2016 for a period of five years.
Though his Rajya Sabha term ended in April 2022, Swamy moved the Delhi High Court seeking reallotment of the bungalow, citing continuing security threats.
Advocate Jayant Mehta, who appeared for Swamy, argued that he should be allowed to keep the government accommodation keeping the required security arrangements in mind.
ASG Sanjay Jain said that Swamy could move into his own residence in Nizamuddin East, but advocate Mehta submitted that this could be done only if Home Ministry ensures that they will do everything desired to help with shifting, safety and security.
Justice Yashwant Varma observed that there was no evidence to back his claims.
“The Court further directs the petitioner to ensure that the possession in question is handed over to the estate officer concerned within a period of six weeks from today,” the high court said, while disposing of the petition.
