Bengal Signboard Inside Odisha Boundary Removed

Balasore: The ongoing inter-state border dispute between West Bengal and Odisha intensified on Tuesday after the Balasore district administration removed the signboard put up by the neighbouring state inside the Odisha boundary.
According to reports, the West Bengal government had put up its signboard mentioning ‘Digha Sea Beach Protection and Beautification Work’ about 20 feet inside the Odisha boundary at Udayapur village in Remuna Tehsil of Balasore district near Digha a month ago.
As the Balasore district administration informed this to the state Revenue department, the latter had informed the matter to the West Bengal government and asked to remove the signboard. But as the West Bengal government did not respond, the district administration acting on the directive of the state government removed the signboard with the help of a crane on Tuesday.
Anticipating untoward incident, the Odisha government has deployed four platoons of the armed police force at Udayapur.
To take stock of the situation, Tehsildars of Bhogarai and Jaleswar have rushed to Udayapur.
Till reports last came in, a palpable tension has prevailed in the area. Sources said two police teams from Kantai and Kathi from West Bengal are on the way to Udayapur.
