Puri: Food Safety authorities intensified raids on khaja manufacturing units and godowns in Odisha’s Puri on Tuesday ahead of the festive season to check adulteration.
Officials of the Food Safety Unit and Puri administration conducted raids at several khaja units in several areas, including Dolamandap Sahi near the Shree Jagannath Temple.
During the operation, officials seized sugar syrup, eight domestic LPG cylinders being used in these commercial units and around four quintals of khaja, sources said.
Five khaja manufacturing units were reportedly sealed for alleged violations of food safety norms, while two pushcarts were also seized during the raid.
Officials said inspections and raids are continuing in different parts of the town as part of efforts to prevent adulteration and ensure that food products sold to devotees and visitors meet safety standards.
The latest action comes days after authorities conducted another major raid on khaja manufacturing units in Puri.
During the earlier operation, around five quintals of khaja and khaja syrup were seized and destroyed, while four khaja manufacturing units were sealed, officials said.
Khaja, a traditional sweet closely associated with Puri and the Shree Jagannath Temple, sees increased demand during the festive season, prompting authorities to intensify checks on its preparation and sale.
