Bhawanipatna: Hundreds of animals were sacrificed at the famous Chhatar Jatra of Maa Manikeswari in Odisha’s Kalahandi district on Monday. Around 30,000 people gathered to witness the festival after they were allowed to participate after a gap of two years.
The ‘Chhatar’ of Maa Manikeswari was taken in a procession to Jenakhol on the outskirts of Bhawanipatna from the Manikeswari Temple following secret rituals, from where it returned to the temple in a procession.
The Supreme Court has stayed the Orissa High Court’s order banning animal sacrifice during the Chhatar Jatra.
