New Tourism Policy To Boost Investment In Odisha: CHATT

Bhubaneswar: The Confederation of Hospitality, Technology and Tourism Industry (CHATT) has hailed the new Tourism Policy 2022 launched by Odisha, saying it will boost investors’ confidence and elevate the state’s tourism potential.

“Importance of tourism in Odisha can be gauged from the fact that it contributes 13 per cent to the state’s GDP, as such the launch of new policy showcases the sustained efforts being made to boost tourist footfalls,” said Secretary General of CHATT, Anwar Shirpurwala.

Noting that Odisha is prone to nature-induced disruptions like cyclones and flooding, he said developing a sustainable, responsible and future-proof hospitality, tourism and travel sector is key to improve biodiversity, natural environment, and conserve heritage.

The policy was unveiled by Odisha’s Tourism Minister, Ashwini Kumar Patra during the recent Make in Odisha Conclave along with roadmaps for the Development of the Tourism Sector in Odisha – 2030 and the Development of the Eco-tourism Sector in Odisha – 2030.

“The new policy and roadmaps launched by the state government would go a long way in cementing Odisha’s position as a vibrant tourist destination. These initiatives are key to unlock the immense untapped potential of tourism in the state which would generate more employment and local livelihood opportunities,” Anwar said in a statement.

A slew of incentives and subsidies announced in the policy will boost investors’ confidence and attract more investments which would result in overall economic growth and development of Odisha, he said.

“This policy which also focuses on improving the sports tourism potential of Odisha has been launched at a very significant time as Odisha is set to host Hockey Men’s World Cup 2023 which will give a fillip to sports tourism in the state,” CHATT secretary general added.

CHATT looks forward to engaging with the state government to harness the potential of micro entrepreneurs as well as small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the hospitality, tourism and travel sector to further improve state tourism sector, visitors’ experience, promote local economy and generate jobs.
